We all need sales in business, to sustain and build our companies. Generating sales can be done in a variety of ways, but the ROI on different approaches varies. What method works best? Is there a one-size-fits-all solution? Not everyone will agree that there is. Still others think there is, but they have picked the wrong method. The truth is there is no one right answer for everyone, but for most businesses, there is a right answer and the answer is Google Selling.

How many people out there are relying on social media to help generate the bulk of their new sales, especially on LinkedIn?  Certainly, prospects can be found and sales can be garnered that way, however, it can be hard slugging, especially month over month as algorithms change. Building that way is a grind. It takes a lot of effort to keep up over the long haul and it is pretty time-intensive especially if you want to reach the masses.  Ever feel like Sisyphus, perpetually pushing that social media boulder uphill?  I can relate. I used to feel this way, for years in fact, but not anymore.

Ira Bowman on the TEDx Stage talking about SEO and why it matters.

Before I switched my strategic approach away from social media as the primary marketing focus of sales funnel building for Bowman Digital Media, it wasn’t uncommon to find me consuming and creating social media content over 8 hours a day.  Graphics, videos, photos, blogs, DMs, posts, comments, hashtags, trending topic research, looking over metrics…it just goes on and on. It wore me out over the years I did it.  I felt like I had to keep up and keep building.  Ironically the larger my network grew, the more work I was creating for myself.  I had built a virtual prison cell instead of a pathway to financial freedom.  Trust me when I tell you that there is a much better way to build your sales.  This alternative method provides more reach, that truly requires less work.  As an added benefit, you also don’t have to outsource your voice to AI or virtual assistants in order to keep up, as I’ve discussed in other places, there’s a huge opportunity cost to doing that.

Imagine a world where you have a tireless salesperson working for you, one who never asks for a raise, needs a coffee break, closes deals in their sleep, and operates globally. This, my friends, is the magic of what I’m terming “Google Selling” in other words, making Google your best sales rep.

As I just described above, social selling on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram can be a demanding beast. You’re constantly chasing trends, crafting engaging content, and battling algorithms for a sliver of attention. While social media can be a powerful tool, it’s definitely a fickle one.

But Google? Google is the prospect attention grabber, silently converting searches into sales in the background, 24/7, 365 days a year.  Even better, Google has far more traffic than all of the social media platforms combined.  There are over 10 Billion searches a day happening on Google alone.  Unfortunately, social media doesn’t track the number of searches that happen on their websites, however, they do track Monthly Active Users (MAUs) and there are only 4.5 Billion of those each month.  So you can reach twice the target on Google in just one day…it’s a no-brainer decision when you start looking at volume reach, ROI, and opportunity cost.

What’s the opportunity cost?  How much time do you waste trying to build a strong social selling network, when you could be running your business, taking a break, sleeping, exercising, researching, networking in person, and developing new business relationships with potential joint venture partners?  The list goes on and on.  The opportunity cost of switching gears from social selling on social media and switching to Google Selling is extremely high.  You can save a ton of both time and money and frankly also increase revenue in the process.

Increase Revenue and Reduce Time Burden by Google Selling Instead of Social Selling

Here’s why focusing on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and climbing those SERP (Search Engine Results Page) rankings is a smarter use of your time and resources:

The Ever-Hungry Audience: People are constantly turning to Google with purchase intent. They’re actively searching for solutions, and if your website ranks high for relevant keywords, you’re right there waiting to answer their call.  As I mentioned above, there are over 10 Billion searches every day on Google, which averages over 100,000 searches per second.

The Trust Factor: A top ranking on Google screams credibility. Consumers trust Google’s algorithm, so a high-ranking keyword, (SERP) positions you as a leader in your field, giving you a leg up on the competition.  This is a Google referral, and we all know that referrals are a great new source of business.

The Silent Salesperson: SEO works tirelessly for you. Once you’ve optimized your website and content, Google does the heavy lifting, attracting qualified leads who are already primed to buy. Imagine a salesperson who never needs a nap or a pep talk – that’s the power of SEO.  This salesperson doesn’t ask for a raise, require commissions or complain about the job.  Google should be your best sales representative because of the hours that it works and it’s reach.

Global Reach: Speaking of reach, unlike social media, where organic reach can be limited, SEO has the potential to put you in front of a global audience. Anyone, anywhere in the world, searching for your product or service can find you.  Once you earn keyword rankings, it’s easy to be found by everyone, not just the select few who happen to like or subscribe or follow your business page.

Change Your Paradigm and Change Your Results

By all means I’m not trying to bash social media or those on it.  Social media is like attending a bustling marketplace or farmers market.  To do well, you have to create attention by shouting your wares at passersby. SEO is like owning a prime storefront location on the busiest street in town, that happens to have a direct line of sight from the freeway. People are actively looking for what you offer, and you’re conveniently positioned to gain their attention.

Google Selling is very much a magic bullet, but note work still needs to be done, both upfront and long-term.  Someone will still need to invest time and effort in crafting high-quality content and optimizing your website. There are two major differences here though between social selling and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to keep in mind.  1) It is far less time-consuming to build up SERP on Google than to build large responsive networks on social media, then keep up with all the trends, create the content, and engage with your network on their posts.  2) You don’t have to do any of the SEO work yourself.  You can source it directly from companies like Bowman Digital Media, and we’ll do it for you.  Moreover, the payoff from Google is a self-sustaining sales machine that works tirelessly to fill your funnel.  The shelf life of posts on social media varies but most are only good for a day or two, far less if you tweet on X and a bit longer if you pin on Pinterest.

So, are you ready to ditch the social media grind and embrace the power of Google Selling? Start optimizing your website today, and watch your sales team of one – the ever-reliable Google – work its magic. Remember, Google never sleeps, and neither should your bottom line!
